Grief & Loss Therapy — Online Therapy in Colorado

Compassionate Support Through Grief, Loss, and Transition

You’re in the right place if you’re grieving a loss — whether recent or years old — and you want a space where your experience isn’t rushed, minimized, or judged.

Grief affects us in many ways. It may follow the death of someone you love — but it can also come from divorce, estrangement, illness, caregiving, a major life transition, or the loss of a role, identity, or dream you once had.

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline. Some days you may feel raw and overwhelmed. Other days you may feel numb, disconnected, or strangely “functional” while still hurting inside. You may feel sadness, anger, guilt, relief, confusion, or emptiness — often all at once.

If you’re grieving, you don’t need to go through it alone.

I’m David Rothman, LPC, and I provide online grief and loss therapy for adults throughout Colorado. I offer a steady, compassionate space to talk about your loss, understand what you’re experiencing, and find support as you navigate the changes grief brings.

What Grief Can Feel Like

Grief is not a problem to solve — it’s a natural response to loss. But it can feel incredibly painful, unpredictable, and isolating.

You might notice:

  • waves of sadness, longing, or emptiness

  • shock, disbelief, or emotional numbness

  • guilt, regret, or “what if” thoughts

  • anger — at yourself, others, or the situation

  • difficulty concentrating or making decisions

  • changes in sleep or appetite

  • loss of motivation or interest in things you once cared about

  • feeling disconnected from others or yourself

  • a sense that life no longer makes sense

You may also feel pressure — internally or from others — to “move on,” “be strong,” or “get back to normal,” even when you’re still deeply affected.

In therapy, there is no timetable. No expectations. No right or wrong way to grieve.

How Grief Therapy Can Help

Therapy with me is gentle, steady, and respectful of your pace. We don’t rush your process or try to talk you out of your feelings. Instead, we make room for them — safely and with care.

Together, we’ll work to:

  • make sense of what you’re feeling and why

  • find compassionate ways to cope with waves of grief

  • reduce isolation and internal pressure

  • honor your relationship with who or what was lost

  • talk about the parts that feel too heavy to share elsewhere

  • explore meaning, identity, and life after loss

  • support your nervous system so grief feels more tolerable

The goal isn’t to erase grief — it’s to help you carry it with support, understanding, and self-compassion.

Types of Loss I Commonly Support

I work with adults experiencing:

  • death of a loved one (recent or years ago)

  • ambiguous or complicated grief

  • traumatic or sudden loss

  • anticipatory grief (illness, decline, caregiving)

  • divorce or relationship loss

  • estrangement or family rupture

  • loss of identity, purpose, career, or faith

  • grief connected to trauma or attachment wounds

Grief can be complex — and it’s welcome here in whatever form it takes.

My Approach to Grief & Loss Therapy

My work is attachment-based, emotionally focused, trauma-informed, and psychodynamic. That means we look not only at the loss itself — but also at:

  • how your nervous system is coping

  • how your relationships and supports have been impacted

  • the meaning this loss holds in your life

  • unresolved emotions that may need time and care

  • the parts of you still trying to adapt and survive

We move at a manageable pace, building stability and support as we go.

A Gentle Note About Safety

If you are experiencing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please reach out for immediate help by calling 911 or the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. You deserve support right now — you do not have to face this alone.
