Online Therapy for Adults & Couples in Colorado

Support for Communication, Trust, and Emotional Connection

If you and your partner feel stuck in the same patterns — distance, shutdown, tension, or conflict — couples therapy can help you slow things down and reconnect with more safety and understanding.

Many couples reach out when conversations turn into arguments, emotions feel overwhelming, or closeness has started to fade. You may care deeply about each other and still feel misunderstood, disconnected, or unsure how to repair what’s been hurt.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.

I’m David Rothman, LPC, and I provide online couples and relationship therapy via Telehealth throughout Colorado. I help couples and individuals strengthen emotional connection, work through conflict, and build healthier ways of being together.

Is Couples Therapy a Good Fit Right Now?

Couples therapy may be helpful if you’re experiencing:

  • repeating arguments that never feel resolved

  • emotional distance, shutdown, or loneliness

  • criticism, defensiveness, or walking on eggshells

  • unresolved hurt or resentment

  • mismatched needs around closeness or independence

  • breaks in trust or emotional safety

  • difficulty expressing emotions or needs

  • conflict that escalates quickly — or fear of conflict altogether

Often, the issue isn’t a lack of love — it’s that the ways you’re trying to reach each other aren’t working anymore.

Couples therapy helps you understand and change those patterns.

How Couples Therapy Can Help

My role is not to take sides, but to help both partners feel heard, understood, and emotionally safe enough to be honest.

In our work together, couples often begin to:

  • understand the cycle that keeps pulling them into conflict or distance

  • communicate more clearly without blame or escalation

  • express emotions and needs in ways their partner can hear

  • reduce defensiveness, withdrawal, or reactivity

  • repair past hurts and rebuild trust

  • feel closer, more connected, and more secure

Many couples are relieved to discover that conflict itself isn’t the problem — it’s the disconnection underneath it.

My Approach: Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)

My work with couples is attachment-based and emotionally focused, grounded in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) — a well-researched approach that helps partners strengthen emotional bonds and repair disconnection.

I have completed EFT Core Skills Training and an EFT Externship, with 50+ hours of formal training in emotionally focused couples work.

Rather than focusing on who’s right or wrong, EFT helps us slow down and explore:

  • the emotional needs driving each partner’s reactions

  • the fears underneath anger, shutdown, or criticism

  • the patterns that repeat even when you want things to be different

  • new ways to reach for each other with more safety and clarity

Sessions are structured and paced so both partners have space to feel heard and supported.

What Sessions Are Like

Couples often describe sessions as:

  • calm, structured, and respectful

  • emotionally focused without being overwhelming

  • guided — so conversations don’t spiral

  • supportive of both partners, not just one

My job is to help you stay connected while talking about the hard things.

A Gentle Note About Safety

If there is current domestic violence, coercion, or ongoing emotional abuse, couples therapy may not be appropriate. In those cases, individual support can help. Your safety and wellbeing always come first.
