Online Therapy for Adults & Couples in Colorado

Therapy works best when you feel understood, safe, and supported. My approach is grounded in the belief that healing happens through connection — with yourself and with others. I draw from several well-established, depth-oriented, and evidence-based models that focus on attachment, emotional experience, trauma, and self-understanding.

I’m David Rothman, LPC, and I provide online therapy for adults and couples throughout Colorado. I’ve received specialized training in the approaches below and remain committed to ongoing professional development so that my work stays thoughtful, responsive, and clinically grounded.

What Therapy Feels Like With Me

Most people experience therapy with me as:

  • steady and collaborative — we look at what’s happening together

  • emotion-focused but not overwhelming — we go at a pace that feels manageable

  • honest and grounded — no pressure to be anyone but yourself

  • practical and reflective — insight that connects to real life

We slow things down, notice what’s happening inside, and make sense of patterns — not to judge them, but to understand where they come from and how they can shift.

The Approaches I Use in Therapy

Attachment-Based Therapy

Attachment-based therapy looks at how early — and current — relationships shape the way you experience emotions, respond to stress, and connect with others. Many struggles such as anxiety, relationship conflict, low self-esteem, or emotional disconnection are linked to attachment patterns that developed over time.

In attachment-based work, we’ll focus on helping you:

  • understand recurring emotional and relational patterns

  • feel safer expressing needs, vulnerability, and boundaries

  • develop healthier ways of connecting with others

  • build a stronger, more secure sense of self

This approach is especially helpful for relationship issues, trauma, and long-standing emotional difficulties.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an attachment-oriented, evidence-based therapy that helps people understand the emotional needs and fears that drive disconnection, withdrawal, or conflict.

With EFT, we work to:

  • identify and shift negative interaction cycles

  • access and express emotions more clearly and safely

  • strengthen emotional bonds and trust

  • improve communication and responsiveness

EFT is especially effective for couples and individuals who want to deepen emotional connection in relationships.

Trauma-Informed Care

Trauma-informed therapy recognizes that overwhelming or unsafe experiences — whether single events or repeated over time — can leave lasting effects on your nervous system, emotions, and relationships.

In trauma-informed work, I emphasize:

  • emotional and nervous-system safety

  • a pace that feels manageable and respectful

  • reducing shame and self-blame

  • building resilience, stability, and empowerment

The goal is for therapy to feel supportive — not overwhelming.

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

AEDP is an experiential, attachment-based therapy that helps people process difficult emotions within a safe and supportive relationship — allowing new experiences of connection, relief, strength, and compassion to emerge.

AEDP-informed therapy supports:

  • healing attachment and relational wounds

  • processing trauma safely and gradually

  • developing self-compassion and resilience

  • experiencing emotional relief rather than staying stuck in old patterns

AEDP reflects my belief that meaningful change happens through emotional experience — not insight alone.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy helps you better understand the unconscious themes and past experiences that shape how you feel, think, and relate in the present.

In psychodynamic work, we explore:

  • how past experiences influence current struggles

  • recurring emotional and relational patterns

  • core beliefs about yourself and others

  • how greater awareness creates space for new choices

This approach is especially helpful for people seeking deeper self-understanding and lasting change.

Ongoing Training & Professional Development

I continue advanced training and consultation in:

  • attachment-based therapy

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • trauma-informed therapy

  • AEDP

  • psychodynamic psychotherapy

So the work we do together stays skilled, ethical, and grounded.

A Collaborative, Human-Centered Approach

While I draw from these models, therapy is never one-size-fits-all. We tailor the work to your:

  • experiences

  • goals

  • values

  • pace

My role is to provide a steady, compassionate presence while helping you build clarity, emotional resilience, and stronger relationships with yourself and others.

Through online therapy in Colorado, I offer a confidential and supportive space where healing and growth can unfold — one step at a time.
